Reuven (Rubi) Rivlin, the tenth president of the State of Israel, was born in 1939 in Jerusalem. During his public career, Rivlin served as a member of the Jerusalem City Council, making a significant contribution to strengthening sports and cultural life in the city. After a decade in the city council, he was elected to the Knesset, where he served for six parliamentary terms, including as a minister in the government and as the speaker of the 16th and 18th Knesset.
During his parliamentary term, Rivlin insisted on the independence of the Knesset from the executive and judicial authorities, and received wide public recognition for his consistent defense of democracy and his efforts to preserve the rights of minorities in Israel. On June 10, 2014, Rivlin was elected President of the State of Israel. As president, he declared his commitment to work to preserve the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, and to strive to establish a true partnership between the various groups in Israeli society and to ensure full equality among all its citizens. President Rivlin's term ended in July 2021. He still lives and works in Jerusalem.
